TikTok is a web service that allows you to make short videos and view them through a browser. It was launched in 2016 by Beijing Internet technology company ByteDance Ltd. It is one of the most downloaded applications in China and other countries.
Meaning and History
What is TikTok?
TikTok is the international version of the Chinese program Douyin. It is a social network where users can post and watch short videos up to 3 minutes long. The TikTok platform debuted in 2016 but went public only two years later when it became the largest video community through a merger with Musical.ly.
The eighth note is depicted on the TikTok logo. The choice of symbol is due to the fact that the media platform is often used to shoot small music videos. The pattern looks unusual due to the combination of three colors: black, purple, and blue. According to the designers’designers’ idea, black resembles a hall during a rock concert, when it is dark around, and the light falls only on the stage.
In this case, the emblem seems stereoscopic. Many people think that you need to look at her in 3D glasses. But this is an erroneous opinion since the developers did not set out to create an anaglyph and did not do a horizontal shift of the picture. They tried to portray the tremolo effect, which is a trembling sound when a single note is repeated. After all, the TikTok application in China is known as Douyin, which translates into English as “Shaking Music.” As a result, the logo looks as if electromagnetic waves distort it.
2016 – today
The symbol of the new application has chosen a note. But at the same time, the designers added an effect that is similar to 3D colors if you look at the image without glasses.
2017 – 2018
The name TikTok is added to the symbol for greater brand recognition around the world. The logo of the “Note” that was present in the application or on other advertising products did not always guarantee brand recognition and memorability. With the addition of the name “TikTok” to the symbol, users remembered the brand better.

Who designed the TikTok logo?
The name of who designed the TikTok logo is being kept under wraps. According to legend, this is a young man who supposedly likes to go to rock concerts. Whether this is the case is unknown.
In 2018, the famous Chinese application Musical.ly became part of TikTok. Then a new logo design appeared. Now the 3D effect has been given to the letter “O.” The rest of the logo has not changed.
Font and Color of the Emblem
Since 2017, the graphic part of the logo has been supplemented by the inscription “TikTok.” At first, “Tik” and “Tok” were written separately, with wide indentation, but then combined into one word. This happened in 2018. Then, the letter “o” appeared purplish-blue outline, like a “note.”
Also, the designers slightly modified the style of the characters: replaced the square dot above the “i” with around one and shortened the strokes of the “T” and “k.” But the basic typography has remained the same. The developers have relied on a well-read sans-serif font because, in their opinion, it is ideal for a brand name.
The arrangement of elements is not regulated: the text can be placed both under the note and to the right of it. Depending on this, its size varies slightly. When both parts of the logo are near the horizontal plane, the inscription “TikTok” is the same as the graphic symbol.
What is the TikTok logo based on?
The TikTok logo is based on the letter “d,” stylized as a musical note. As you know, the name of the Chinese platform Douyin, which is the progenitor of TikTok, begins with “d.” At the same time, the image is based on the tremolo effect: the artists tried to convey the trembling of the sound with the help of an unusual combination of colors. After all, the word “Douyin” is translated as “shaking music.”
How was the TikTok logo made?
Rock concerts inspired the person who created the TikTok logo. He liked the contrast between the dark auditorium and the illuminated stage so much that he reflected it in the design. As a result, the black middle of the musical note is complemented by bright contours in the form of neon reflections. And the developer tried to play on the word “Douyin” (“shaking music”), using a visual shake effect.
To convey the musical effect of the tremolo, the designers combined several colors. The main one is black (# 010101). He depicted a note. Optional – purple shade of red (# EE1D52) and turquoise Light Aqua (# 69C9D0). They are unevenly stacked on top of each other, making the impression that the pattern is trembling under the influence of an electromagnetic field.
