Breakfast cereal, a snack bar during the day, and a pack of snacks on the way home are part of the usual shopping routine that accompanies the daily rhythm. Behind these products is a company that manages well-known brands and develops the ready-to-eat snacks and breakfasts segment. The Kellanova logo belongs to a new corporate structure, spun off from the previous business and focused on producing snacks and fast-moving consumer goods.

Kellanova: Brand overview

Kellanova was established in 2023 after the Kellogg Company split. Will Keith Kellogg founded the company in 1906 in Battle Creek, Michigan. His first product was cornflakes, developed from experiments his brother, John Harvey Kellogg, conducted at his sanitarium.

By the 1920s, Kellogg had become a leader in the ready-to-eat cereal market. In 1928, Kellogg introduced Rice Krispies, and in 1952, Frosted Flakes. In the mid-20th century, the company strengthened its position in the United States and expanded internationally.

In the 1970s, the company began diversifying its business. Kellogg acquired Salada Foods. In 2001, the company bought Keebler Foods for $ 4.56 billion and acquired the brands Cheez-It, Keebler, and Famous Amos. In 2012, the portfolio expanded when the company acquired Pringles from Procter & Gamble for $2.7 billion.

In the 2010s, the company faced declining demand for breakfast products. In response, it increased investments in the snack segment. In 2019, Kellogg sold part of its brands to Ferrero and focused on international operations.

In 2022, the company announced a business split. In October 2023, Kellogg separated into WK Kellogg Co., which handled cereals in the United States and Canada, and Kellanova, which focused on snacks and international operations.

Kellanova received the brands Pringles, Cheez-It, Pop-Tarts, Eggo, and Rice Krispies Treats. The company’s headquarters are located in Chicago. Snacks accounted for about 60 percent of its 13 billion dollars in annual revenue.

In 2024, the company opened a Pringles plant in Thailand. It also expanded the Cheez-It brand internationally. In August 2024, Mars acquired Kellanova for $ 35.9 billion. This became the largest acquisition in Mars’s history.

The company operates as part of Mars. It continues to manage the Pringles, Cheez-It, and Pop-Tarts brands. Its products are distributed in more than 180 countries worldwide.

2022 – 2023

Global Snacking Co. Logo 2022

Global Snacking Co. was the working name for Kellogg Company’s international business during preparations for the separation. The company introduced it on June 21, 2022, as the name for the future organization bringing together snacks, cereal products outside North America, noodles, and frozen breakfast foods. Initially, the name was temporary and described the company’s business areas until it became Kellanova.

The company’s history began on February 19, 1906, in Battle Creek, Michigan. Will Keith Kellogg founded the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company and established commercial production of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. The business was later renamed Kellogg Company. By the time preparations for the separation began, the company had expanded its product range and entered international markets. The restructuring plan called for the international business to remain with the main publicly traded company. The North American cereal business was to become a separate organization.

The working name “GLOBAL SNACKING CO.” appeared on one line in a brick-red color. All letters were uppercase and had serifs. The initial letters “G,” “S,” and “C” rose above the others, marking the beginning of the three parts of the name. The period after “CO.” completed the abbreviation of “Company.” The text occupied the entire logo and represented the future organization under its temporary name.

The separation was completed on October 2, 2023. The former Kellogg Company adopted the legal name Kellanova. At the same time, the North American cereal business began operating separately as WK Kellogg Co. The Global Snacking Co. name ended with the transition to the permanent name.

2023 – today

Kellanova Logo

Kellanova unveiled its permanent name and logo on March 15, 2023, as part of the separation of Kellogg Company announced in 2022. The brand replaced the working name Global Snacking Co. It was intended for the international cereal, snack, and plant-based food business. CEO Steve Cahillane linked its introduction to the continuation of Kellogg’s 117-year history and the start of the company’s next stage of development.

The name combines a reference to the Kellogg surname with the idea of renewal. The “Kell” portion comes from Kellogg Company, while “anova” combines the English letter “a” with the Latin word nova, meaning “new.” Employees from different countries participated in the name search. Nearly 1,000 people submitted more than 4,000 options. Some of the suggestions included the word component “nova,” which influenced the creation of Kellanova.

The logo displays the name in crimson red. The uppercase “K” is calligraphic, while the remaining letters are lowercase. The combination of two typefaces connects the former Kellogg identity with the new name. The initial “K” comes from WK Kellogg Script and preserves the company’s handwritten tradition. Thick sections transition into thin strokes, resembling a brush mark, while some curves have teardrop-shaped terminals. A modified version of Gilroy with rounded sans-serif letters was used for “ellanova.” Its geometric forms differ from the free-flowing shape of the “K.”

The right stroke of the letter “v” was extended. It rises above the neighboring letters and curves slightly to the side, interrupting the even upper line of the lowercase section. The company associates the form with the transition to the next stage following the Kellogg separation. The extended “v” and calligraphic “K” form part of the wordmark and give it a distinctive appearance.

The separation was completed on October 2, 2023. The former Kellogg Company became Kellanova, retaining the stock ticker “K” and its status as the legal successor to the original company. The corporate name brought together Pringles, Cheez-It, Pop-Tarts, RXBAR, Eggo, international Kellogg’s brands, and other business areas. Kellogg’s remained in use as a product brand. Agreements allowed both companies to use it in specified categories, including packaging for international cereal brands.

Mars completed its acquisition of Kellanova on December 11, 2025. The company and its brand portfolio became part of Mars Snacking. The Kellanova name remained in use in corporate materials and communications during the transition period. The red wordmark continued to be used in its 2023 form.
