Netflix began introducing its new Narnia adaptation with a logo, a photograph of Greta Gerwig on set, and the tagline “A universe begins.” Released on September 16, 2026, the materials introduce Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which launches a new screen adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s works with the story of the fantasy world’s creation.
A large NARNIA wordmark sits at the center of the title treatment. The name retains uppercase serif letters, but their outlines are softer. Smooth curves, rounded joins, and flared terminals replace the previous version’s sharp endings and long decorative strokes. The rounded bowl of the “R” and curved diagonal of the “N” recall fairy-tale book lettering.
Orange, purple, and blue rays radiate from the wordmark’s center against black. In the animated reveal, the glow accompanies the name’s appearance and fills the space around the letters. Creative Bloq connects the rounded forms with childhood wonder, while NarniaWeb notes their resemblance to storybook aesthetics.
A FILM BY GRETA GERWIG appears above the name, with THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW beneath it. Small, widely spaced capitals distinguish these supporting lines from the franchise name. Gerwig wrote, directed, and produced the film.
The previous film logo first appeared publicly on September 30, 2004, ahead of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Its design combined thin and thick strokes, sharp terminals, and extended decorative forms. The “R” had a prominent curved leg, while the “A” letters featured unusual crossbars. The wordmark later appeared on book covers, official websites, and licensed merchandise.
Early examples of the new lettering had already surfaced in the spring. On April 20, 2026, NarniaWeb published a photograph of a director’s chair at Cardington Studios. NARNIA appeared in white across its back. Similar letterforms returned in the September title reveal, now accompanied by a colored glow.
The release prompted comparisons with fantasy and science-fiction films from different decades. Aaron Earls, author of The Wardrobe Door, saw echoes of The NeverEnding Story and Labyrinth. Some viewers also associated it with Tron. The discussion centered on the combination of storybook letterforms and light rays against a dark background.
“A universe begins” references the plot of The Magician’s Nephew. In comments shared by Netflix, Gerwig described Aslan singing the world into existence and a universe born from music. The creation of Narnia connects the film’s story with the opening of its promotional campaign.
Alongside the reveal, Netflix launched @NarniaMovie social media accounts and updated NarniaFilm.com. According to the announced schedule, IMAX previews begin on February 10, 2027. The international theatrical release is planned for February 12, followed by the Netflix release on April 2.
