Ola Cabs: Brand overview

Ola Cabs, hailing from Bangalore, Karnataka, India, was founded on December 3, 2010, by visionaries Bhavishu Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati. Ola was initially conceived as a service connecting cab drivers with potential passengers and offered users a variety of transportation options. Over time, the brand diversified into areas such as financial services and cloud kitchens.

2015 was a year of acquisitions for Ola. In March, the company acquired TaxiForSure, a Bangalore-based cab service, for about ₹12.37 billion (US$150 million). By November, Geotagg, a company specializing in trip-planning apps, was acquired, although the terms of that deal have not yet been disclosed. Adapting to its customers’ diverse requirements, Ola introduced service categories such as Ola Auto, Ola Micro, and Ola Prime.

By 2018, Ola’s operations were no longer limited to India. The company entered the Australian market in January and New Zealand in September. By March 2019, Ola had announced its presence in the UK. Despite obstacles, especially from dominant players like Uber, Ola continues to hold its ground, especially on its home turf – India.
