Digital banking operations require software systems that process data, execute transactions, and support online services. Financial institutions use such platforms for daily operations and customer interactions. The Temenos logo is associated with a company that develops banking software, including systems for account management, payments, and digital services.
Temenos was founded in 1993 in Geneva by entrepreneurs George Koukis and Kim Goodall. The company began as a developer of banking software for loan and deposit management. In the 1990s, as banks transitioned to new IT systems, Temenos offered modular solutions that automated core operations.
In 1997, the company received venture funding and launched the Globus system. In 2000, Temenos went public on the Swiss SIX Exchange. In 2001, the company introduced a new core banking architecture called T24. The system was designed for high transaction volumes. In the 2000s, banks in Asia, Africa, and Latin America widely adopted T24 because of its flexibility and rapid implementation.
In 2006, Temenos acquired Odyssey Financial Technologies. In 2008, it acquired the British company Viveo, thereby strengthening its position in the European market. In 2010, Temenos acquired the Israeli company Trigger and integrated its business process automation solutions. Since 2012, the company has moved its products to the cloud. During this period, Temenos began partnerships with Amazon and Microsoft.
In 2016, the company acquired Multifonds. In 2018, Temenos acquired Avoka. In 2019, the company completed its acquisition of Kony DBX, strengthening its digital banking division. In 2020, the company introduced a SaaS cloud platform for banking operations. This accelerated clients’ transition to cloud technologies.
In 2022, George Koukis stepped down as CEO. Jean-Pierre Brulard was appointed and initiated a company restructuring. In 2023, the company integrated artificial intelligence technologies into its products. In 2024, the company began a large-scale program to migrate clients to the cloud.
The company serves more than 3,000 banks in 150 countries. It offers Temenos Transact and Temenos Infinity solutions and remains a leading software provider for the global banking industry.
Meaning and History
What is Temenos?
A Swiss technology company from Geneva that develops banking platforms and automated systems for the financial sector. The main product is the Temenos Transact system (formerly T24), used in retail, corporate, and investment banking, as well as in microfinance and Islamic finance. The company offers digital platforms, payment solutions, asset management tools, and cloud services.
1993 – 2015
Temenos’ early logo featured a cube bearing a world map, and the Geneva-based company grew out of the Globus banking platform. In 1993, George Koukis and Kim Goodall acquired the software system, laying the foundation for the business. Temenos develops software to manage bank accounts, process payments, and provide digital customer services. The name comes from the ancient Greek τέμενος, referring to land dedicated to a deity or a sacred precinct. Koukis associated the name with something valuable that requires protection.
The cube sat to the left and slightly above the name’s beginning. Its rotation revealed the top and two side faces. The light blue surfaces varied in shade, with the top lightest and the right side darkest. Perspective and shifting light gave the symbol depth. Dark blue continent outlines extended across the visible faces, forming a world map on the cube.
Dark blue TEMENOS lettering appeared beside it. The sans-serif capitals had thin, straight strokes, with the “O” and “S” adding rounded forms. The upper bars of the “T” and “E” ended in angled cuts. The lettering resembled Eurostile or Bank Gothic. Positioning the cube above the first letter gave the combined symbol and name a stepped silhouette.
2015 – 2018
In September 2015, Temenos commissioned British agency Feed to carry out a global brand update. The work covered the company’s positioning, logo, and visual identity system. The 2016 identity introduced a variable emblem that could respond to Temenos data. The agency connected its changing pattern to the diversity of financial technology.
A flat hexagon with rounded outer corners replaced the three-dimensional cube. The world map remained inside, but the continents became more abstract. Light blue areas stood out against a dark blue background. Triangles and other polygons divided the surface into facets in shades of blue, light blue, and turquoise.
The emblem appeared to the left of the name on the same horizontal line. Blue TEMENOS lettering retained its capitals, thin, straight sans-serif strokes, and angled cuts at the ends of the upper bars. Its structure resembled Frutiger or Myriad. The blue tones and world map maintained a connection to the earlier logo. However, the symbol’s shape and the depiction of the continents had changed.
2018 – 2022
The next Temenos logo returned a three-dimensional cube with a detailed world map. The figure tilted forward and to the left, revealing three faces. White and several shades of gray replaced the blue surfaces. The left side became dark, while the right was lightest. These differences suggested side lighting. The dark blue continents had sharper geographic outlines and extended across all visible faces, interrupted only at the cube’s edges.
A stacked arrangement placed the symbol above TEMENOS. The dark blue capitals became heavier than before. Straight strokes stayed consistently thick, while rounded sections gained substantial contours. The sans-serif typeface resembled Gotham or Neo Sans. Angled cuts at the ends of the upper bars of the “T” and “E” maintained a connection to the brand’s early lettering.
2022 – today
Temenos moved to an open banking platform with a new logo on May 18, 2022. The platform lets banks assemble services from individual software components. The international agency Principle proposed “Everyone’s Banking Platform” for the new positioning. The phrase addressed banks of different sizes, fintech companies, developers, and partners. Temenos introduced the identity at the Temenos Community Forum.
The world-map cube was removed, leaving the single word “temenos.” It appeared in lowercase, set in a custom sans-serif typeface. Substantial strokes joined through rounded curves. The openings in the “e” letters remained open, while the “m” and “n” shoulders curved smoothly. The overall structure resembled Google Sans, Poppins, and Avenir Next Rounded. Blue remained, now in a deep shade with a purple undertone close to indigo. The soft forms and lowercase lettering reflected the company’s desire to feel closer to people.
Beyond the logo, Principle expanded the identity with coral and moss green, along with the Temenos Curve motif. The arc was based on an exponential curve, representing the platform’s expanding capabilities. Its curve connected materials across different formats.
In January 2025, WANT Branding updated Temenos’s verbal positioning. Over eight weeks, the team developed a mission statement and the tagline “Leading Banking Forward,” presented at the TKO2025 meeting in Dubai. The new phrase shifted the emphasis from the platform’s accessibility to different market participants toward Temenos’s role in advancing banking technology.
