1991 – today
The name Wilmar combines the names of the two founders. The first part, “Wil,” comes from William, the name used by Kuok Khoon Hong. The ending “mar” comes from Martua Sitorus. The combined word preserved the memory of the entrepreneurs’ partnership, which began long before the company entered international markets. The short name later became the shared designation of a group that grew from a small trading firm in Singapore.
Kuok Khoon Hong and Martua Sitorus founded the company on April 1, 1991. The first registered organization was Wilmar Trading Pte Ltd, with capital of SGD 100,000 and five employees. A new period began on July 14, 2006, following the reverse takeover of Ezyhealth Asia Pacific Ltd. The group adopted the legal name Wilmar International Limited. Its shares began trading on the Singapore Exchange on August 8.
The logo is based on the lowercase word Wilmar in gray-olive. The sans-serif typeface resembles Stone Sans and FF Scala Sans. The letters have even contours and moderate weight. Lowercase lettering gives the long wordmark a unified appearance and distinguishes it from traditional uppercase identities. The name occupies the main horizontal section, while the symbol appears above it and is shifted to the right.
The emblem consists of two intersecting shapes resembling downward-pointing check marks. Together, they form a stylized letter “W” connected to the first letter of the name. The wide stripes meet at pointed ends in the center and then extend in opposite directions. The left figure is blue-green, while the right one is dark turquoise. The difference in shades separates the two parts while preserving the complete letterform.
The short name and the letter “W” refer to the history of the partnership between Kuok Khoon Hong and Martua Sitorus. This identity has been used since the 2006 transformation and the group’s stock market listing. The compact wordmark suits international operations where the full legal name is rarely used.
