Wonderbra’s history began in 1935, when Canadian designer Moses Nadler created a bra with diagonal seams for fuller shaping and stronger support. In 1939, he received a U.S. patent for the design. The commercial launch came in 1955, when Canada’s Lady Corset Company licensed Nadler’s model and sold it under the Wonder-Bra name.

In the 1960s, the company developed new bra styles, including early push-up designs. The Dream Lift model appeared in 1964 and became an early base for modern push-up bras, using special inserts and cup construction to raise and shape the bust. During the 1970s, the brand continued testing materials and production methods for stronger visual shaping and better support.

In 1991, Sara Lee acquired Wonderbra rights for the United States, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe. The brand gained mass attention in 1994 through the “Hello Boys” campaign with Eva Herzigova. In 1995, U.S. sales reached $120 million, and Wonderbra became closely linked with push-up bras. Sara Lee sold the brand and its European lingerie business to Sun Capital Partners in 2006.

In 2014, HanesBrands acquired DBApparel, including Wonderbra. After that, the company updated its push-up lines with new materials, added seamless lingerie in 2016, and launched the “Feel Wonderful” campaign in 2017. Later releases included a 2018 anniversary collection, recycled-material bras in 2019, virtual fitting consultations and wider sizing in 2020, new push-up and sports bra models in 2021 and 2022, and a 2023 campaign focused on diversity and body positivity.
