Indy Fuel hockey began in 2013, when the ECHL approved the application of entrepreneurs Jim and Sean Hallett to establish a team in Indianapolis. The name Indy Fuel references the city’s racing heritage and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The team’s home arena is the historic Indiana Farmers Coliseum, seating 6,200 fans.
In their first season (2014), Fuel partnered with the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and their AHL affiliate, Rockford IceHogs. Indy Fuel’s inaugural game was against the Fort Wayne Komets, which they lost 4-5. After several seasons without a playoff appearance, the team made its first Kelly Cup appearance in 2017/18, losing to Toledo.
In 2022, construction began on the Fishers Event Center, a new arena. Fuel played their first game there against the Iowa Heartlanders in December 2024. The team remains important in Indiana hockey, actively supporting local sports and charity programs and sending several players to the NHL.

2014 – 2024
The Indy Fuel hockey club logo, introduced at the franchise’s ECHL launch, was used from the 2014/15 season through mid-2024. It was created by the Indianapolis-based studio CVR.
The design centers on a stylized black hockey puck viewed from above, with the large word “FUEL” placed across it. The letters are in a bright, saturated red, outlined in a golden-yellow tone that adds depth and dynamism. Above, the word “INDY” appears in smaller, white, sans-serif type, emphasizing the team’s connection to Indianapolis.
The letter “F” is stylized to resemble flames, reinforcing the city’s identity as a racing hub celebrated for its racing heritage at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Three stars at the bottom of the puck carry symbolic meaning. The large central white star, placed between two smaller yellow stars, signifies that the Indy Fuel became Indiana’s third professional hockey franchise.
The color palette, built around black, red, and gold, conveys power, energy, and speed, underscoring the team’s athletic and dynamic spirit. The black puck background strengthens the solid image and draws focus to the central name composition.

2024 – today
The updated Indy Fuel logo was unveiled on July 29, 2024, as part of a brand relaunch coinciding with the club’s relocation to its new home at the Fishers Event Center. This version preserves recognizability and ties to the previous visual concept while delivering a bolder, more professional execution that enhances overall impact.
The design retains the stylized black hockey puck with an elliptical top and features the bold “FUEL” wordmark. The red is now deeper and richer, outlined in gold and given an additional black shadow to create a three-dimensional illusion and emphasize motion. The typeface retains an athletic style, characterized by sharp, slanted glyphs and dynamic forms. The “F” is again shaped like flames, reflecting Indianapolis’s racing legacy.
Above the main wordmark, “INDY” appears in white, set in a compact, slightly italicized sans serif font, adding balance and simplicity to the composition.
The main new feature is a checkered pattern on the puck’s lower portion, replacing the three stars from the previous logo. This element strengthens the team’s symbolic connection to the city’s motorsports history, recalling the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway and reinforcing the club’s identity within Indiana.
The palette, with a black background and rich red and gold, communicates the energy and confidence typical of top-level sports clubs. At the same time, the color combination gives the logo a powerful visual presence.
