EVA Air was founded in Taiwan in 1989 by Dr. Chang Yung-fa, head of Evergreen Marine Corporation. After government approval, EVA Air placed large orders for Boeing 747-400 and MD-11 aircraft.
On July 1, 1991, the airline made its first flight from Taipei to Bangkok. In 1992, it introduced the world’s first premium economy class, “Economy Deluxe,” on flights to Los Angeles. By the mid-1990s, EVA Air had become profitable and launched its cargo division, EVA Air Cargo.
In the early 2000s, the company renewed its fleet with Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-200 aircraft. In 2005, it began popular Hello Kitty-themed flights. EVA Air joined the Star Alliance in 2013.
The company retired its last Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft in 2017. Hello Kitty flights resumed in 2023, serving Sapporo, Bali, and Chicago.
Headquartered at Taoyuan International Airport, EVA Air currently operates routes to more than 40 destinations across Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America, using a modern fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

1989 – 2013
The EVA Air logo was designed to showcase the airline’s international status and ambitions, and to convey its connection to its parent company, Evergreen Group. The design concept focused on key corporate qualities: reliability, technological expertise, and global presence.
The logo consists of two interconnected parts. On the left is the name “EVA AIR,” written in uppercase letters using a bold geometric sans-serif typeface. The font features strict, straight lines and square-shaped glyphs, projecting stability and professionalism. The lettering is rendered in green, the corporate color of the entire Evergreen Group.
To the right of the name is a symbol resembling an aircraft’s vertical stabilizer. It is shaped like an angled triangle, with a globe image drawn in orange lines representing parallels and meridians. At the center of the globe is an eight-pointed green star, the emblem of Evergreen Group. The star symbolizes navigation, guidance, and global presence, aligning directly with the airline’s core business. Along the right edge of the symbol, a vertical orange line imitates the contour of an aircraft tail.
The logo’s color palette, combining green and orange, was specifically chosen to emphasize continuity with other Evergreen Group enterprises, including Evergreen Marine, the largest Asian shipping company. The orange adds energy and dynamism, while the green conveys trust. This composition reflects EVA Air’s aspiration to stand out in the international market.
2013 – today
The updated version is a refined, simplified evolution of the airline’s brand mark. This redesign was not radical but aimed at moderate modernization to meet the needs of digital platforms and international visual identity standards.
The name “EVA AIR” is written in uppercase letters in a dense geometric sans-serif typeface. The letters have straight, even lines and balanced proportions, emphasizing the airline’s reliability. The green shade maintains continuity with the Evergreen Group’s corporate style, which also owns EVA Air. However, it has been slightly lighter, creating a fresher, more modern look. Letter spacing has been tightened, giving the wordmark a stronger sense of unity.
On the right is a symbol depicting a stylized aircraft vertical stabilizer with a globe inside. The globe features a grid of orange parallels and meridians. The composition was visually simplified by removing the orange line along the tail’s edge, making the symbol cleaner and easier to read across different media.
The updated logo was implemented across all aspects of EVA Air’s corporate identity, including placement on new Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft, crew uniforms, printed materials, and the company’s digital communications.
