Ice Age: Brand overview

The Ice Age franchise began in 1999 when 20th Century Fox’s Blue Sky Studios started working on an animated film set in prehistoric times. Initially, the project was planned as a serious story, but it was transformed into a family comedy during development.

The original Ice Age movie premiered in 2002. It focused on a unique trio of characters: Diego, the saber-toothed tiger, Sid, the sloth, and Manny, the mammoth. The film was a major success, earning nearly $380 million worldwide and establishing Blue Sky Studios as a prominent player in animated filmmaking.

The second film, Ice Age: The Meltdown, was released in 2006. It introduced new characters, such as Ellie the Mammoth. This sequel earned nearly $660 million globally, surpassing the original’s success.

The third installment, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, hit theaters in 2009. The movie revealed a hidden world of dinosaurs beneath the ice and introduced Buck, the one-eyed ferret, as a new central character. It grossed almost $880 million and became Blue Sky Studios’ highest-grossing release.

The fourth film, Ice Age: Continental Drift, was released in 2012. It expanded the series’ universe with new characters and a maritime adventure, earning approximately $870 million worldwide.

Short features were also released between these main films. In 2006, No Time for Nuts starred Scrat and received an Oscar nomination, while Surviving Sid in 2008 centered on Sid the Sloth’s adventures.

In 2016, Ice Age: Collision Course brought familiar characters into new adventures with a space-themed story, earning over $400 million globally.

From 2020 to 2021, the animated series continued to evolve with new TV specials and short films.

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild debuted on Disney+ in 2022. The series followed the escapades of Buck, the Ferret, and the Opossum brothers. In 2023, it expanded across various platforms, including digital and streaming services.

The prehistoric-themed franchise has become one of the most successful animated series in film history, generating over $3.2 billion at the global box office. The brand has inspired numerous spin-offs, including video games, books, toys, and theme park attractions.

The series’ success can be attributed to its captivating animation, family-friendly humor, and charming characters. Scrat, the acorn-chasing squirrel, has become an iconic part of the collection. The franchise has been praised for its ability to adapt to changing viewer preferences while maintaining its unique style and appeal.

Ice Age Logo

The “Ice Age” logo has two versions—2D and 3D—each conveying the franchise’s spirit but differing in details. Both use the same font, sizes, and text arrangement, but the visuals create different impressions.

“Ice Age” is made in large blue letters resembling ice blocks. The letters look carved from real ice, conveying a sense of scale and epicness. The text is arranged on two levels, and the black outline adds depth and helps to make the text stand out against any background.

The 2D logo is bright, with an emphasis on adventure and humor:

  • Blue evokes associations with cold and ice while remaining soft to perceive.
  • The uneven contours of the letters give the impression that they were created by nature, and their uniqueness emphasizes the texture of the ice.
  • The black outline enhances the massiveness; the letters look like ice blocks lying on a frozen surface. For this version, we used the Ice Age Movie Font by Fran Fernandez, which is similar to ZPPrehistoricAge by Illustration Ink.

A 3D logo looks more realistic and three-dimensional:

  • The letters resemble monolithic ice blocks, creating a feeling of massiveness.
  • The texture with irregularities and cracks conveys the spirit of the harsh conditions of the Ice Age and natural power.
  • The blue color is complemented by highlights that convey the shine of the ice, and dark blue shades add depth.
  • The contrast between the highlights and shadows enhances the volume, making the text realistic and lively.

Both versions of the emblem retain the franchise’s style but emphasize different features: the 2D version emphasizes lightness and humor, and the 3D version conveys realism and monumentality.
