The Opera GX logo symbolizes a browser designed for gamers who value speed and flexibility. The developer, known for its browser solutions, focused on the needs of the gaming audience in this project, offering tools tailored to the dynamic pace of the virtual world.
Opera Software created Opera GX, the Norwegian browser company founded in 1995 by Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner and Geir Ivarsøy, former Telenor engineers. Opera GX was created to meet the need for a browser that could run alongside demanding games without using too many computer resources. Opera introduced the browser on June 11, 2019, during E3 in Los Angeles as an early access version for Windows.
Its main feature was GX Control, a system that let users limit the browser’s CPU, RAM, and network usage. Opera GX also introduced GX Corner, with gaming news, release schedules, and deals, along with Twitch integration in the sidebar. The browser was created for players who wanted gaming content and communication tools in one place.
By June 2020, Opera GX reached 3.5 million monthly users and expanded to macOS. That same year, the browser added Discord integration to its sidebar, letting users access text and voice channels without opening a separate app. In 2021, Opera acquired YoYo Games, the developer of GameMaker, and created Opera Gaming.
In June 2021, Opera GX launched mobile versions for iOS and Android with Flow synchronization between desktop and mobile devices. The browser continued growing, reaching over 25 million monthly users in 2023 and 34 million in 2024. Its community also developed around platforms such as Discord, where users could interact with other members.
Meaning and History
What is Opera GX?
It’s a browser that’s built specifically for gamers. It’s convenient for everyday browsing and comes equipped with tools to manage the system’s load while gaming. Its customizable interface, lighting, and integration with gaming platforms make it a convenient hub for communication, streaming, and gaming news. 2019 – today
The Opera GX logo is built around a single symbol and a text component. The letter “O” is on the left, depicted by two circles with thin internal curves. The lines create an impression of volume and layering, resembling portals or virtual rings, referencing the company’s technological foundation and gamer orientation. The rings are colored bright red, lending the emblem an active, dynamic character.
The textual part, “Opera GX,” is placed to the right of the symbol. The font is sleek, thin, and geometric. Clean, sans-serif lettering conveys a modern, technological style, specifically designed for gaming environments and gamer comfort. “GX” in the name is separated from “Opera,” which is written in uppercase to emphasize the browser’s gaming-specific features, additional controls over system resources, and integration with gaming platforms.
The color scheme is contrasting and active: a bright red symbol paired with black text. These colors convey the energy and dynamism characteristic of the gaming industry and the browser’s target audience. Opera Software created this browser in response to increasing interest in gaming content and online streaming.
